This is the time of year many of us set new goals.
We are wanting and ready for change.
There is a certain high we feel that comes with thinking about achieving the goal.
Setting your goal is only one part and is often the easiest part.
It takes 5 minutes or less to set a SMART goal – Specific, Measurable, Attainable, Relevant, and Timely.
The bigger part to achieving the goal is defining the process to get there.
What is your system or process for getting to your goal?
This part requires more attention and focus and planning.
Without the proper system in place, you are not likely to achieve your goal.

How will you handle urges to drink?
How will you handle a set back?
How do you plan to decondition all the current triggers you have to drink?
Will you share this goal with others and how?
What will you say when someone offers you a drink or a friend comes over with a bottle of wine to share?
How will you handle your new identity when you get there?
To achieve any goal, you have to focus on the process.
Want a college degree? Then you have to follow the process.
The work is in the learning over the 4 years. You are not suddenly smarter the day you collect your degree.
Many of us focus on just getting to the goal without focusing on the how and the identity shift that has to take place along the way.
I just want to be a social drinker.
I just want to drink less.
