What Does Your Commitment Look Like?

When thinking about your goals and the life you want to live, how committed are you? Specifically, when it comes to your drinking, have you defined how often you want to allow alcohol in your life?  Does it depend on the day? The hour? I remember waking up daily and swearing off drinking for that night. I was disgusted with my habit. And I felt sooo committed that morning. As the day progressed, the thought of drinking would come into my brain. I would mentally say “Nope, not tonight.” I felt committed.

After work, my brain would be thinking about having a drink….just 1. And I would have that first drink. It was then I was no longer committed to not drinking. I chose to feel good in the moment instead. I let the urge win. Which meant I went powerless. I spent months in this cycle. Yes, months. I couldn’t get off the drinking hamster wheel. My commitment was not at 100%. As Clay Christensen states, 100% commitment is easier than 98% commitment. You have to go all in on this.  Do what it takes.  No matter what.
